FAQ’s
What is the difference between KOLD-DRAFT’S ice and all of the competitors?
KOLD-DRAFT makes The Best Ice In The World. The horizontal evaporator and water plate assembly with high speed pressurized water flow injected into the evaporator actually freezes out impurities. Even water distribution in the evaporator produces perfect cubes identical to each other - ice produced is purer than the supply water.
What kind of ice will a KOLD-DRAFT machine produce?
A KOLD-DRAFT machine produces only “gourmet ice” which is very cold. Harvested KOLD-DRAFT ice is colder than the freezing temperature of water.
How long will a KOLD-DRAFT machine last vs. the competition?
KOLD-DRAFT ice machines have a longer product life cycle, lasting two or three times longer than competitive machines when properly maintained. Cubers lasting 15, 20 even 30 years are not uncommon. Competitive machines just do not last this long. Try to find a thirty year old competitor machine. This makes KOLD-DRAFT the least expensive ice machine - “best value cuber”.
Do I need an expensive water filtration system when I purchase a KOLD-DRAFT machine?
No. KOLD-DRAFT’s ice making process eliminates the need for costly water filtration systems and replacement cartridges in most cases. Water with high levels of chlorine should be filtered.
KOLD-DRAFT appears to be more expensive than the competitors, why?
KOLD-DRAFT offers the “best value cuber” in the ice maker industry today. It is longer lasting, more durable and the exclusive upside down evaporator design makes KOLD-DRAFT the least expensive cuber on the market. In addition, no expensive filtration system accessory is required in most applications - this places a KOLD-DRAFT machine in a very competitive pricing position at the time of purchase.
Does a KOLD-DRAFT machine use complicated internal cleaning systems?
No. A KOLD-DRAFT machine does not need automatic cleaning systems. Why? KOLD-DRAFT machines automatically flush out and rinse the system with each harvest and start the next cycle with a fresh batch of water. A KOLD-DRAFT machine is a true fresh water cuber.
- Some competitive machines provide no or incomplete drainage after the freeze cycle which concentrates impurities and leads to mineral deposits on the evaporator and corrosion
- Some competitive machines will not harvest due to mineral deposits on ice harvest mechanism and/or the evaporator
- Siphon methods of drain-off lead to service problems and “pump out” systems require an added solenoid at an additional cost
Do I need to adjust my KOLD-DRAFT machine after installation?
No. The water level control determines the freeze/harvest cycles. A KOLD-DRAFT machine takes on a measured amount of water, when it reaches the low water point most of the water has been turned into ice and the machine harvests. No seasonal adjustments are necessary to pressure controls or timers. The harvest of ice is determined by the transition of water into ice. When the water is depleted the ice is harvested.
Will KOLD-DRAFT efficiently use my water supply?
Yes. New potable water consumption is competitive with or better than other systems. Verified by UL, File “EV23611″
Does KOLD-DRAFT use inferior material in its evaporator?
No. All evaporators are tin plated copper for excellent heat transfer and corrosion resistance
Will my KOLD-DRAFT ice “waffle” or stick together in the bin after production?
No. 100% gravity assist drop of ice - horizontal evaporator vs. slant fin
- Leads to unassisted rapid harvest even if corrosion resistant coating has deteriorated.
- Rapid harvests reduce the amount of ice meltage during harvest and allow for minimal webs between cubes which eliminates “waffle ice”.
- No inconsistent freezing in evaporator cells because water is forcibly injected into the cells.
Will my KOLD-DRAFT produce consistent ice shapes every time?
Yes. KOLD-DRAFT will not produce odd shaped cubes (irregular rhomboid, contour, crescent, etc.). KOLD-DRAFT’S ice is easier to handle, has higher displacement and the beverage will not splash out of the glass. These factors make a better looking drink. Good ice is a merchandising tool that helps to sell more drinks
Will KOLD-DRAFT ice machines stack? If yes, how many?
Yes. KOLD-DRAFT stacks best:
- Only 16″ high - can stack four or five cubers to competitors two in the same head room
- Rugged frame won’t buckle. Skins are not part of the support structure
Will my new KOLD-DRAFT ice machine stack on my existing KOLD-DRAFT ice machine?
Yes. New KOLD-DRAFT ice machines are compatible (stackable) with new and old KOLD-DRAFT ice machines, crushers, dispensers and bins. You can mix models in a stack: old style, new style, different series and crusher
Why does KOLD-DRAFT use all stainless steel and not less expensive plastic molding and doors?
All Stainless steel simply provides durability of outer skin and door panels. The KOLD-DRAFT machine stainless steel frame provides structural stability - all providing greater longevity.
What are the available refrigeration systems?
KOLD-DRAFT ice machines are available with a variety of refrigeration systems: air cooled, water cooled and remote-air cooled.
Why should I purchase an ice crusher vs. a flaker?
KOLD-DRAFT’S crushed ice is slower melting than flake ice because it is colder and harder. Providing a better appearance than flake ice - it sparkles. Excellent for frappe type drinks because of purity - no taste imparted to the drink and much lower maintenance cost than flakers, resulting in a less expensive machine over time.
